School Trip of '63
Recently, we were delighted to receive some memorabilia from
Peter Simpson.... in the form of a School Journey booklet for a trip
to Guernsey over 40 years ago.... in 1963!
The front cover depicts a ferry approaching the
island.....
The general message to the party came from the fondly remembered
headmaster, Mr M Queen.....
The party included deputy Mr T Connell and members of both the
Queen and Connell families. Mr. Queen was obviously soemething of an optimist -
describing the waters of the English Channel as warm.... between May 31st and
June 8th!
How times have changed over 40 years. Back in
1963 ,Mr Queen advised that £2 would be a sufficient amount of
spending money for a week and advised that pupils should take a
change of underclothes......
What a lovely piece of local school history! We
will be adding it to our Oxford Street Boys School pages
shortly. (Note: If you would like to see how things are
progressing on the boys school menu click
here ).
Thanks to
Peter...
We would like to thank Peter for sorting out
these documents and taking the time to scan the material for use
on the web site. If anyone else has school memorabilia from the
past, we would like to hear from you.
