Sorting Things Out....
The re-introduction of the Chat Column is
proving a bit of a task after so many weeks without it... and I
am fast coming to the conclusion that I need a temporary
secretary to sort me out!
I have been slowly trawling back through past
correspondence to pick up the various contributions. This week,
I have picked up just some of the backlog. Please bear with me!
Out of
Action...
Parts of the web site were unavailable over the
weekend. I believe this was due to maintenance work being
undertaken by our Service Provider. However, I wouldn't want to
complain as we get a pretty good service bearing in mind that it
is free web space.
Skiing Into the Sunset
Back in August, Ann Nash sent this super photo of a sunset
taken from Joy Lane....
(Photo © Ann Nash)
It beautifully captures the late summer scene with a lone water
skier making the most of those final tranquil moments before darkness descends.
As readers will know, Ann has contributed so
many shots for use on Simply Whitstable and this is a good time
to say thanks!.
More Thanks to Peter....
This is also a good time to say a special thank you to Peter
Dalrymple who has also supplied some terrific shots for the web site over the
years. I am sure that many people were fascinated by the aerial photo sequence
that we published a few weeks ago. If you haven't studied it yet.... click
here.
In the near future, we will be including more
permanent article using Peter's photography such as...
The Swale
Smack and Sailing Barge Match of 2007...
This item will include shots taken at sea. Here
are just a few examples...
Above: Greta,
Repertor and Decima in the Swale at the start of the match for
staysail barges
Below: An oyster
smack in full sail... I hope! (Photos © Peter Dalrymple)
Not all attendees were barges and smacks. So, if
anyone can provide a background to the craft below, let us
know!....
On the Red Sands Forts....
Using Peter's pictures, we will also be producing an item on the
Maunsell Forts in the Thames estuary off Whitstable

(Photo © Peter Dalrymple)
This will include an inside view with scenes like these...

We know that some of our readers have shots of
the forts back in the 1960s. If anyone would like to contribute
information, we would love to hear from you.
Wind Farm...
The new wind farm will also get its own article with close up
shots like these....

'Bonnie' Archer....
Ian Johnson has beavering away up in
Yorkshire.... on behalf of our local football enthusiasts. The
subject matter? Well, it concerns one of Whitstable Town FC's
most popular players - goalkeeper John 'Bonnie' Archer and, in
particular his short playing career at Grimsby Town.
In the next few days, we will be adding the
article to our 'Whitstable Town FC - The Golden Years' feature.
Our thanks go to Ian for all the effort he has put into the
research.
